In this article we will cover how to create a chart template.
Utilizing chart templates can be a great way to build stylized Views quickly and consistency. A chart template is a pre-made chart that with saved conditions, styles, and slide position.
To begin, first add a chart to a View. Let's say you are building a slide where all charts will contain a date filter for created on last 3 months and active is true. I could either copy and paste the query to new charts: active=true^sys_created_onONLast 3 months@javascript:gs.beginningOfLast3Months()@javascript:gs.endOfLast3Months()
Or I can create a chart template.
Once your conditioned chart is added to your view, style and position the chart how you would like. How to style a chart. Notice the position of your chart. This is the position that the chart template will be saved to. This can be helpful when aligning your charts later.
Before creating the chart template, click SAVE in the upper right corner.
Now you are ready to create a chart template. Select your chart and click SAVE AS CHART TEMPLATE. The chart template modal will appear.
Enter a title for the template. Here you will want to be as descriptive and concise as possible. In the below example we have noted the chart type used, and the basic description of the conditions. This helps us identify the chart for future use. Please note, anyone within your organization will have access to these chart templates once saved.
Select feature groups. Here, choose Base Platform.
Make template customer facing. Toggle ON. This will allow the chart template to appear in the chart template menu.
SAVE
Once you save, you will be prompted to save again to maintain the template/chart relationship. Click SAVE in the upper right corner.
You have created your first chart template!
Did you make a mistake or want to edit your template? With your chart selected, click SAVE AS CHART TEMPLATE again.
The same modal will appear with one small difference, you now have the option to either "Update this template" or "Save as new template". NOTE: if you choose "Save as new template" be sure to change the title of the template so you do not have 2 charts templates with the same title. Once any changes have been made, click SAVE on the modal, then click SAVE on the view in the upper right corner.
