Terms that relate to VividCharts version 1.7

Chart

A single data visualization element like a bar chart, donut chart, line chart, etc.

Chart Template

A Chart that has been saved so it can be reused in the future. A Chart Template includes data definitions, conditions, and any styles like color palettes, titles, and alignment settings.

View(s) (noun)

The reporting output that can be shared, downloaded, and refreshed; typically in slide deck form. Each View will have a unique sys_id.

E.g. If you have 10 charts on a slide deck with 2 slides, the entire slide deck is considered a View.

Scaled Report

A distinct View type that has been generated using the Summary Builder.

Summary Builder

The process used to specify which record should be used to generate a Scaled Report using a Summary Template. Found by going to Apps>[process area]>Summary Builder

Summary Template

A special kind of template that can be referenced in the Summary Builder. It includes definitions about how tables should map to other tables when being used to create Scaled Reports.

View Template

A view that has been saved so it can be re-used multiple times as a starting point for creating new views. A View Template has distinctly different capabilities than a Summary Template.

Collection

A way to organize views, Summaries, bookmarks, and links in VividCharts. You can share view or edit access to a Collection, however, these share/view permissions aren’t adopted by the objects held within. Explicit view/edit permission must be granted per view.

Workflows

A selection of paths to take that guide you to your intended reporting output. Each workflow supports different behaviors and leads to different outputs.

Publish

The action that makes a View available for others to consume. If you share view access with other people, they will not be able to see the View until it’s published.

Static Filter

A filter that’s applied to a View that only references cached data. If a user applies a static filter, it will not re-query the ServiceNow records, but apply the filter to what data was available at the time the View was refreshed.

Dynamic Filter

A filter that’s applied to a View that, when applied, will pick up the most recent data from any ServiceNow records that fit the filter criteria.

Public View Access

When a distinct View is shared with the “public” role explicitly, that view can be viewed by anyone that has access to the URL of the View. This role cannot refresh the data in the view, use dynamic filters, or share the View.

Report Generator

A mechanism used to save a View with a set of filters already applied. This is useful in scenarios where a viewer is only interested in seeing data that applies to their interests so they don’t have to explicitly choose the filters each time.
