Starting in the 1.7 release of VividCharts, you'll need to select a workflow when creating something new. This change helps guide you through the creation process to get the output you want.

There are 4 different workflows to choose from:

  • Unfilterable Slide Deck

  • Filterable Slide Deck/Dashboard

  • Scaled Reports

  • VividSheets

Unfilterable Slide Deck

The output of this workflow is a single slide deck that can be shared, refreshed, and downloaded by viewers who have been given the proper access.

The superpower of this workflow is that you can use VividSheets as a data source. This lets builders visualize data that’s been pre-processed in a VividSheet that you or a colleague created. You still have the option to choose the “slide deck” or “tabbed” presentation type, however, as the title suggests, filtering is not available in this workflow. Specifically, this means what you see on the canvas is what all viewers will see.

Filterable Slide Deck/Dashboard

The output of this workflow is a single slide deck with filtering capabilities that can be shared, refreshed, downloaded, and filtered by viewers who have been given the proper access.

If you’re not sure about the final output that you’re looking for, this workflow is a good option to use while you shape up your reporting requirements.

Filtering capabilities in this workflow mean builders can draw a chart and create a filter. Viewers can filter the data populating that chart according to the filters you created.

Scaled Reports

The final output of this workflow is multiple reports that share the same visual structure. The process to get that output includes creating a template and selecting how many reports will be generated using that template as a blueprint.

As an example, let’s say you want to generate a status report for all of your projects. You’d build a single Scaled Report Template, then apply that template to your choice of project records. With a few more clicks, you’ll have reports generated for all of your projects that share the same presentation style.

VividSheets

The output of this workflow is a set of data that can be flexibly organized in a tabular format. The tabular format can be shared directly or used as a data source to draw charts in VividCharts.

VividSheets is a distinct app from VividCharts that needs to be downloaded from the ServiceNow store, though it’s free to download.
