A Combination Chart is a type of chart that combines two or more different chart types into a single chart. This allows you to present multiple sets of data using different formats within the same visualization. Combination charts are particularly useful when you want to compare different types of data that have different scales or units of measurement. A combination Chart can consists of two or more chart types overlaid or juxtaposed within the same chart area.

The Combination Chart below is displaying opened and closed incidents over the last 12 months. This Combination Chart is utilizing two Vertical Timed Bar charts, one displaying the opened incidents and one displaying the closed incidents.

Let's look at the Data and Chart Options for this Combination Chart and how this Combination Chart is built. First click the +ADD CHART to display the drop down with the chart type options for the Combination Chart.

This Combination chart is using two Vertical Timed Bar charts. Once the charts are added, the pencil icon on the right side is selected for each chart to set up the Data and Chart options. Both of Vertical Timed Bar charts are displaying incident data, therefore they both will be utilizing the incident table.

The first Vertical Timed Bar Chart options are set to display the opened incidents. To achieve this the Date Field input is set to 'Created - sys_created_on'. The second Vertical Timed Bar Chart options are set to display the closed incidents. To achieve this the Date Field input is set to 'Closed - closed_at'.

Conditions: Setting conditions allows you to query the table you are building the chart off of.

  1. Count: Calculates the number of records in a set.

  2. Count Distinct: counts the number of unique, non-duplicated values in a field.

  3. Sum: Adds up the values of a specified field for a set of records.

  4. Average: Computes the average value of a specified field for a set of records.

  5. Minimum: Finds the minimum value of a specified field in a set of records.

  6. Maximum: Determines the maximum value of a specified field in a set of records.

Aggregate Field: refers to a field that displays an aggregated value based on the data from other fields. These fields are used to perform calculations or summarize data from related records.

Calendar Type: The calendar input can be set to a Standard Calendar or Fiscal Year.

Trend Type: Trend Type refers to the general direction or pattern of change in a set of data points over a specific period of time.

Date Range: This input determines the range of time displayed on the line chart. The Date Range considers the dates associated with the field selected in the Date Field chart option.

Date Field: A 'Date' field is designed to store date and time values.

Let's look at the style options that help give this Combination Chart more clarity. First a custom title of 'Incidents: Opened/Closed - Last 12 Months' is set to provide a quick understanding of the data the chart is displaying.

Next, the Labels and Data Values toggles are engaged to display the values of each bar that makes up the Combination Chart.

The Display legend toggle is engaged to display the Legend at the bottom of the Combination Chart. Custom titles of Opened and Closed are given to the Legend.
