Platform Enhancements (Big Rocks)

Smarter, simpler sharing: sharing a report now uses three clear permission levels instead of a single edit/view toggle.

To read a full documentation of how roles and permissions work together with this release, read: Understanding Roles & Permissions in VividCharts

Complete list of VividCharts Roles after this release:

-- Builder

-- Collaborator

-- Refresher

-- VCCS

-- VCAdmin

List of permissions available on each report:

-- View only

-- View and share

-- Edit

  • Edit access is now reserved for Builders.

    • Only users with the Builder role can be granted edit permission on a report. Previously any user could be granted that permission, but would fail and denied access when they tried to visit the report to edit.

  • New: the Collaborator role.

    • Give a teammate the ability to share a report and send it as an email attachment, without giving them full edit access. This is a good fit for anyone who needs to distribute reports but shouldn't be able to change them.

  • New sharing modal.

Permissions are hierarchical. Granting a user Edit permission gives that user View and Share permissions, granting a user View and Share, logically grants them View permissions. But, for a user to successfully 'Share with others' or 'Send as attachment' they will be required to have the Collaborator role.

Backwards compatibility!

To manage moving from the binary sharing of View or Edit permissions, any report user who had View access on a report previously, will have View Only access to that report with the update.

To have View + Share access, those user will need:

1. To be given the Collaborator role

2. Have View + Share access granted to them

Strategic Gantt: upgrades

Strategic Gantt received the largest set of improvements in this release:

  • Collapsible rows

    • Condense the chart by collapsing rows you don't need to see; the collapse control is now positioned on the right for easier access.

  • Fiscal calendar support

    • Plot Gantt timelines against your organization's fiscal calendar instead of only the standard calendar year.

  • Conditional coloring and fields

    • Color rows or cells based on conditions you define, using a familiar ServiceNow condition-builder interface built right into the chart configuration.

  • Configurable column widths

    • Set Gantt columns to fixed pixel or percentage widths.

  • Milestone improvements

    • Fixed duplicate milestone labels and repeating-milestone rendering

    • Added configurable milestone text color

    • Added the option to append description text to milestone markers.

  • More reliable configuration

    • Changing a Gantt chart's underlying table now correctly resets dependent field/column/condition settings instead of leaving stale, broken references behind.

  • Performance

    • Gantt charts with deep table hierarchies or large row counts now load noticeably faster, thanks to batched backend queries

  • Assorted polish

    • Removed unwanted cell overflow clipping

    • Fixed a UI label typo

    • Several default-option fixes.

Other chart and viewing improvements

  • Combination charts

    • Fixed an issue where selecting a custom chart as a data source could silently break

    • Fixed legend label overrides occasionally being lost when a layer's conditions changed.

  • Multi-line/multi-axis charts

    • fixed misaligned rendering when multiple trend lines had slightly different date ranges (e.g., weekly data). The lines are now aligned to a shared date range.

  • Sankey charts

    • Fixed links overflowing the chart bounds and visual glitches (stray tooltips/gradients) when resizing or re-rendering.

  • Calculated Score list charts

    • Fixed inconsistent threshold-based coloring.

  • Placeholder/empty states

    • Custom "no data" and error messages now respect your chosen text alignment instead of always centering.

  • Conditional-color legend

    • Added an optional legend explaining your conditional-color rules, available on Heatmap, Gantt, Sankey, and Strategic Gantt charts.

  • Viewer slideshow mode

    • Arrow keys and spacebar slide navigation no longer accidentally fires while a dialog is open on top of the viewer.

  • Filter editor

    • Fixed the "Add Filter" condition builder incorrectly showing or hiding options for tag-type fields.

Scaled Reports & importing

  • Fixed a broken Help Center link on the Scaled Report page.

  • Table mapping settings now correctly show the actual parent table name instead of a hardcoded placeholder.

  • Importing a scaled report with a name already in use no longer silently creates a duplicate title, as a number is now appended automatically.

  • The "Import from JSON" dialog now shows an "Importing..." state and disables Submit while the import runs, preventing accidental duplicate submissions.

Notifications & sharing

  • Fixed a bug where the "notify this person" option on the sharing dialog would not always send a notification.

  • Fixed an issue where attempting to deploy a version template without permission showed a confusing error rather than a clear one.

  • Fixed the "new version available" comparison used for the refresh banner so it reliably detects when a newer published version exists.
